Hotel Features

  • A doorman crosses the wrought-iron gated courtyard of Shangri-La Paris, the former hôtel particulier of Prince Roland Bonaparte.

Shangri-La Paris occupies the former hôtel particulier of Prince Roland Bonaparte, in the elegant 16th arrondissement overlooking the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. The property holds both Palace distinction and Monument Historique status, and was named a Michelin Guide Two Key hotel in 2024 alongside a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating — with 100 rooms and suites, many of them connecting for families and larger groups.

  • A guest room in the Prince Roland Bonaparte apartment, with a period portrait and Directoire-style furnishings.

Prince Roland Bonaparte, a great-nephew of Napoleon I and an accomplished geographer, botanist and explorer, built this residence in the 1880s. His own suite, restored with a period portrait and Directoire-style furnishings, was named to Elite Traveler's "Top 100 Suites in the World" — a rare case where a hotel's signature room carries its original owner's real history, not a marketing invention.

  • The dark-wood and jade-toned interior of Shang Palace, France’s only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant.

Shang Palace, led by Chef Tony Xu, has held a Michelin star every year since it opened in 2011 — France’s first and, to date, only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant. Xu draws on more than 20 years across mainland China’s top kitchens, reworking Cantonese and Sichuan classics with ingredients sourced from a family-run organic farm in Normandy.

  • A signature dish at Shang Palace, lobster and scallop fried rice presented tableside.

The tasting menus move from a Gong Fu Cha tea ceremony centred on a bespoke tea cart to dishes like lobster and scallop fried rice and a sweet-and-sour foie gras that plays French ingredients against Chinese technique — the kind of pairing Xu has built his reputation on.

  • Cocktails and bar snacks at Le Bar Botaniste, designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon in tribute to Napoleonic-era tents.

Le Bar Botaniste, designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, reimagines the drama of a Napoleonic officer's tent while nodding to Prince Bonaparte's own passion for botany. It was named one of Forbes Travel Guide's 58 Best Hotel Star Bars in 2025. Les Salons du Prince, Maison Roland and The Art of Breakfast round out the hotel's other dining rooms, open through the day for a mostly Parisian and international clientele.

  • A treatment at Chi, The Spa, housed in what were once Prince Bonaparte’s stables.

Chi, The Spa occupies what were once Prince Bonaparte's stables, built around a 17-metre pool bathed in natural light. Treatments use organic products from the French brand Alaena, alongside a fitness room and a holistic approach to facials and massage.

Room Types

  • Among the hotel's 100 rooms and suites, the Eiffel View Room brings French art de vivre with subtle chinoiserie touches and a direct view of the tower; Deluxe and Terrace Suites add a separate living room, the latter opening onto a private terrace; Junior Suites overlook the hotel's own French garden with glimpses of the tower; and the Panoramic Signature Room comes with its own 43 sqm private terrace facing the Eiffel Tower and the Seine.
  • The living room of La Suite Shangri-La, on the top floor with an unobstructed Eiffel Tower view.

La Suite Shangri-La, on the top floor of the palais, is a modern apartment in the sky with unobstructed views from the Eiffel Tower to the Grand Palais and Sacré-Coeur. The 120 sqm suite pairs French Directoire and Empire styles with Art Deco details — a walk-in dressing room, a separate dining area, a kitchenette — and opens onto a 100 sqm private terrace. For larger groups, the entire top floor can be privatised into a 500 sqm, four-bedroom apartment.

MYVIPSERVICE Perspective

Shangri-La Paris suits travellers who want a genuine Franco-Asian palace experience — a real Michelin-starred Chinese kitchen, a residence with real Bonaparte-family history, and rooms with a direct line of sight to the Eiffel Tower. The 16th arrondissement is quieter and more residential than the Right Bank palace cluster, so travellers set on walking straight out to the Champs-Élysées or the Place Vendôme boutiques should weigh the short taxi ride into that; for a family stay built around connecting rooms and an Eiffel Tower view from the window, this is a strong fit.
