Burgundy runs on an entirely different logic from Bordeaux. There’s no Bordeaux-style grand château here — instead, a large number of mostly small, family-run domaines, and a classification system collectors often spend years genuinely learning to read — from regional appellations up through village level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru, where two neighbouring parcels in the same village can express completely different terroirs and completely different wines.

Because most domaines are family-run with limited capacity for visitors, Burgundy actually depends even more than Bordeaux on genuine private coordination — this isn’t “buy a ticket at the gate,” it requires reaching out in advance, selecting the right domaines based on your interests, and arranging the appropriate experience within what each estate can accommodate at the time.
